A right tale as exhilarating as a fantastic spy thriller, as turbulent as today’s headlines from the Middle East, A Time to Betray reveals what no additional previous CIA operative’s memoir possibly could: the inner workings of the notorious Revolutionary Guards of Iran, as witnessed by an Iranian man inside their ranks who spied for the American government. It is a human tale, a chronicle of family tree and friendships torn apart by a terror-mongering regime, and how the adult choices of three childhood mates during the Islamic Republic yielded divisive and tragic fates. And it is the stunningly courageous account of one man’s decades-long commitment to lead a shocking double life informing on the beloved country of his birth, a place that once offered the promise of freedom and enlightenment—but as a replacement for ruled by murderous violence and spirit-crushing oppression.
Reza Kahlili grew up in Tehran surrounded by his close-knit family tree and two spirited boyhood friends. The Iran of his youth allowed Reza to reflect and act freely, and even indulge a penchant for rebellious pranks in the face of the local mullahs. His political and personal freedoms flourished while he studied computer science at the University of Southern California in the 1970s. But his carefree time in America was cut fleeting with the sudden death of his father, and Reza returned home to find a country on the cusp of change. The revolution of 1979 plunged Iran into a dark age of religious fundamentalism under the Ayatollah Khomeini, and Reza, clinging to the hope of a Persian Renaissance, joined the Revolutionary Guards, an elite force at the beck and call of the Ayatollah. But as Khomeini’s tyrannies unfolded, as his fellow countrymen turned on each additional, and after the horror he witnessed inside Evin Prison, a shattered and disillusioned Reza returned to America to dangerously become “Wally,” a spy for the CIA.
In the wake of an Iranian election that sparked global outrage, at a time when Iran’s nuclear program holds the world’s nervous attention, the revelations inside A Time to Betray could not be more powerful or timely. Now resigned from his secretive life to reclaim precious time with his loved ones, Reza Kahlili documents scenes from history with heart-wrenching clarity, as he supplies vital information from the Iran-Iraq War, the Marine barracks bombings in Beirut, the catastrophes of Pan Am Flight 103, the scandal of the Iran-Contra affair, and more . . . a chain of incredible events that culminates in a nation’s fight for freedom that continues to this very day.

Product Description
Harvey Penick’s life in golf started when he ongoing caddying at the Austin, (Texas), Country Club at age eight. Eighty-one years later he is still there, still dispensing wisdom to pros and beginners alike. His stature in the golf world is reflected in the remarkable array of champions he’s worked with, both men and women, including U.S. Open champion and golf’s leading money winner Tom Kite, Masters champion Ben Crenshaw, and LPGA Hall of Famers Mickey Wright, Betsy Rawls, and Kathy Whitworth. It is not for nothing that the Teacher of the Year Award agreed by the Golf Teachers Association is called the Harvey Penick Award.
Now, after sixty years of keeping notes on the things he’s seen and learned and on the golfing greats he’s taught, Penick is finally letting his Small Red Book (named for the red pad he’s permanently kept) be seen by the golf world. His simple, direct, practical wisdom pares away all the hypertechnical jargon that’s grown up around the golf swing, and lets all golfers, whatever their level, play their best. He avoids negative words; when Tom Kite questioned him if he should “choke down” on the club for a particular shot, Harvey told him to “grip down” as a replacement for, to keep the word “choke” from entering his mind. He advises golfers to have dinner with people who are excellent putters; their confidence may rub off, and it’s certainly better than listening to terrible putters complain. And he shows why, if you’ve got a terrible grip, the last thing you want is a excellent swing.
Throughout, Penick’s like of golf and, more importantly, his like of teaching shine through. He gets as much pleasure from watching a beginner get the ball in the air for the first time as he does when one of his students wins the U.S. Open.
Harvey Penick’s Small Red Book is an instant classic, a book to rank with Ben Hogan’s Modern Fundamentals of Golf and Tommy Armour’s How to Play Your Best Golf All the Time.Amazon.com Review
Before titanium drivers, before oversized heads and bubble shafts, before electronic systems to tell you how far you are from the pin, golf was much the same game it is today. The lessons Harvey Penick taught in the pre-gadget days still stand. The golf swing is basically the same, and Penick could teach it better than anyone. For most of his life, he never proposed to publish his Small Red Book, a pad of golf wisdom and anecdotes that he compiled with the thought that he’d pass it on to his son. But, for the sake of history, it’s a excellent thing that he changed his mind. Contained in its 175 pages is just about all you need to know about golf from a technical standpoint, along with Penick’s priceless memories of effective with legendary pros, teaching absolute nobodies to get the ball in the air, and finding a horde of bat guano and carrying it across town in a pickup truck to fertilize his golf course. This book makes you feel excellent about playing golf, that you’re part of something steeped in ritual and mystery and tradition, and that the game was played perfectly well before perimeter-weighted, graphite-shafted irons came along.

Michael J. Fox abandoned high school to pursue an acting career, but went on to receive honorary degrees from several universities and garner the highest accolades for his acting, as well as for his writing. In his new book, he inspires and motivates graduates to admit opportunities, maximize their abilities, and roll with the punches–all with his trademark optimism, warmth, and humor.
In A Amusing Thing Happened on the Way to the Future, Michael draws on his own life experiences to make a case that real learning happens when “life goes skidding sideways.” He writes of coming to Los Angeles from Canada at age eighteen and attempting to make his way as an actor. Fox offers up a comically skewed take on how, in his own way, he fulfilled the supplies of a college syllabus. He learned Economics as a starving artist; an unexpected turn as a neophyte liberal schooled him in Political Science; and his approach to Comparative Literature involved stacking books up against their movie versions.
Replete with personal tales and hilarious anecdotes, Michael J. Fox’s new book is the perfect gift for graduates.

Stolen Innocence: My Story of Growing Up in a Polygamous Sect, Becoming a Teenage Bride, and Breaking Free of Warren Jeffs
Where to buy Stolen Innocence: My Tale of Growing Up in a Polygamous Sect, Apt a Teenage Bride, and Breaking Free of Warren Jeffs books online?
Product Description
In September 2007, a packed courtroom in St. George, Utah, sat hushed as Elissa Wall, the star witness against polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs, gave captivating testimony of how Jeffs forced her to marry her first cousin at age fourteen. This upsetting and plain account proved to be the most compelling evidence against Jeffs, showing the harsh realities of this clogged community and the lengths to which Jeffs went in order to control the sect’s women.
Now, in this courageous memoir, Elissa Wall tells the incredible and inspirational tale of how she emerged from the confines of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) and helped bring one of America’s most notorious criminals to justice. Offering a child’s perspective on life in the FLDS, Wall discusses her tumultuous youth, explaining how her family tree’s turbulent past intersected with her strong will and identified her as a girl who needed to be controlled through marriage. Detailing how Warren Jeffs’s influence over the church twisted its already rigid beliefs in treacherous new directions, Wall describes the inescapable mind-set and inexorable pressure that forced her to wed despite her repeated protests that she was too young.
Once she was married, Wall’s childhood shattered as she was obligated to follow Jeffs’s directives and submit to her spouse in “mind, body, and soul.” With small money and no knowledge of the outside world, she was trapped and forced to suffer the pain and abuse of her loveless relationship, which eventually pushed her to spend nights sleeping in her truck rather than face the tormentor in her bed.
Yet even in persons bleak times, she retained a sliver of hope that one day she would find a way out, and one snowy night that came in the form of a rugged weirder named Lamont Barlow. Their chance encounter set in motion a friendship and eventual romance that gave her the might she needed to break free from her past and sever the chains of the church.
But though she was out of the FLDS, Wall would still have to face Jeffs—this time in court. In Stolen Innocence, she delves into the hard months on the outside that led her to come forwards against him, effective with prosecutors on one of the largest criminal cases in Utah’s history, so that additional girls still inside the church might be spared her cruel fate.
More than a tale of survival and freedom, Stolen Innocence is the tale of one heroic woman who stood up for what was right and reclaimed her life.

a selection from the ORIGINAL PREFACE:
IN the republic of letters, there is no member of such second-rate rank, or who is so much disdained by his brethren of the quill, as the humble Novelist; nor is his fate less hard in the world at large, since, among the whole class of writers, perhaps not one can be named of which the votaries are more copious but less respectable.
Yet, while in the annals of persons few of our predecessors, to whom this species of writing is indebted for being saved from contempt, and rescued from depravity, we can trace such names as Rousseau, Johnson, 1 Marivaux, Fielding, Richardson, and Smollett, no man need blush at starting from the same post, though many, nay, most men, may sigh at finding themselves distanced.
The following letters are open to the Public-for such, by novel writers, novel readers will be called,-with a very singular mixture of timidity and confidence, resulting from the peculiar situation of the editor; who, though trembling for their success from a consciousness of their imperfections, yet fears not being involved in their disgrace, while happily wrapped up in a mantle of impenetrable obscurity.
To draw characters from scenery, though not from life, and to mark the manners of the times, is the attempted plot of the following letters. For this purpose, a young female, educated in the most secluded retirement, makes, at the age of seventeen, her first appearance upon the fantastic and busy stage of life; with a virtuous mind, a cultivated understanding, and a feeling heart, her ignorance of the forms, and inexperience in the manners of the world, occasion all the small incidents which these volumes record, and which form the natural progression of the life of a young woman of obscure birth, but conspicuous beauty, for the first six months after her Entrance into the world.
Perhaps, were it possible to effect the total extirpation of novels, our young ladies in all-purpose, and boarding-school damsels in particular, might profit from their annihilation; but since the distemper they have spread seems incurable, since their contagion bids defiance to the medicine of advice or reprehension, and since they are establish to baffle all the mental art of physic, save what is prescribed by the slow regimen of Time, and bitter diet of Experience; surely all attempts to contribute to the number of persons which may be read, if not with advantage, at least lacking injury, ought rather to be encouraged than contemned.
Let me, therefore, prepare for disappointment persons who, in the perusal of these sheets, entertain the gentle expectation of being transported to the fantastic regions of Romance, where Fiction is coloured by all the gay tints of luxurious Imagination, where Reason is an outcast, and where the sublimity of the Marvellous rejects all aid from sober Probability. The heroine of these life tale, young, natural, and inexperienced, is
No faultless Monster that the world ne’er saw;
but the offspring of Scenery, and of Scenery in her simplest attire.
In all the Arts, the value of copies can only be proportioned to the scarcity of originals: among sculptors and painters, a fine statue, or a gorgeous picture, of some fantastic master, may deservedly use the imitative talents of young and second-rate artists, that their appropriation to one spot may not wholly prevent the more all-purpose expansion of their excellence; but, among authors, the back is the case, since the noblest productions of literature are nearly equally attainable with the meanest. In books, therefore, imitation cannot be shunned too sedulously; for the very perfection of a model which is frequently seen, serves but more forcibly to mark the inferiority of a copy.

“[Metz's] memoir of the year after her spouse abruptly died is poignant, powerful, and absolutely riveting.”
–Chris Bohjalian, leader of Midwives and The Double Bind
“[Metz] brings refreshing candor to a startling, painful tale.”
–The New York Times
“I read Perfection breathlessly, grateful to its leader for these unvarnished truths about her late spouse’s infidelities. Julie Metz gives us a courageous and fascinating postmortem on a seemingly pleased marriage, making an emotional detective tale that is unforgettable.”
–Elinor Lipman, leader of My Latest Grievance
Julie Metz had seemingly the perfect life–an adoring spouse, a pleased, spirited daughter, a lovely ancient house in a quaint suburban town–but it was all a lie.
Julie Metz’s life changed forever on one ordinary January afternoon when her spouse, Henry, collapsed on the kitchen floor and died in her arms. Suddenly, this mother of a six-year-ancient became the young widow in her bucolic tiny town. But that was only the beginning. Seven months after Henry’s death, just when Julie thought she was emerging from the worst of it, came the rest of it: She learned that what had appeared to be the reality of her marriage was but a half-truth. Henry had hidden another life from her.
Perfection is the tale of Metz’s journey through chaos and transformation as she makes a different life for herself and for her young daughter. It is the tale of rebuilding both a life and an identity after treachery and widowhood, of rebirth and happiness–if not perfection.
