Product Description
In this companion to her successful introduction to cat behavior Reflect Like a Cat, Pam Johnson-Bennett, the award-winning leader and feline behaviorist, shows how adding another cat to your home does not have to be the start of a fund apocalypse. Although cats are regularly misunderstood as natural loners, Johnson-Bennett shows how to plot, set up, and maintain a home environment that will help multiple cats—and their owners—live in peace. Cat vs. Cat will help readers know the importance of territory, the specialized communication cats use to set up relationships and hierarchies, and how to interpret the so-called “terrible behavior” that leads so many owners to needless frustration. Offering a wealth of information on how to diffuse tension, prevent squabbles and ambushes, blend two families, or help the elder fund in your family tree, Cat vs. Cat is a welcome resource for both seasoned and prospective guardians of cat families large and tiny.

In response to this lifestyle-change manual written on a second-grade level, I have sent my spouse an e-mail. It is as follows:
Dearest Spouse:
We need to buy about 30 interactive toys tonight so that they are permanently within reach at a moment’s notice in a drawer or under a couch cushion in case one of the cats tries to sneak up on another. Really, I need to spend two play sessions of 15 minutes each daily with each inidividual cat, in addition to building sure they don’t tough each additional, concurrently constructing massive tunnels, staircases, and cat trees and window perches. Also, we need to make a detailed map of whose territory is whose and position trees, perches, litterboxes, and food accordingly. We also need to grow a pot of grass for each cat and clean the litterboxes after each time they go (meaning several times daily). Also, we need to buy them premium spine-down pillows and permanently keep freshly laundered stacks of towels and tee shirts available at all resting stations in the house. We need to buy plenty of rodent/bird/snake sound CDs and cat entertainment videos featuring Flutter the Butterfly and Greeny lawn. We should probably also subscribe to a satellite channel that features such programs and have it on 24 hours a day. If I get pregnant we need to record my niece crying and screaming and building additional baby noises to get the cats accostumed to persons sounds before the baby is born. But I’m only middle through the book– I’ll send the rest of the new rules when I end it.
Can I quit effective now to be a stay-at-home cat mom?

This book has excellent thoughts but is entirely too dull to read due to its intelligence-insulting language, crappy editing, and superfluous suggestions. Common sense works just as well. I gave it one star because it was so terrible that it was humorous.

While there is some useful information in the book, my opinion is that I know cats as well as this woman, which is to say nobody really understands them very well at all.
As an example, every cat of hers (3) gets its own litter box in its own space. And you must sift and scoop each box a minimum of twice a day. And no automated boxes, God forbid! She makes a excellent point that you’re not as on top of any medical issues with an automated box, but the same thing is right with your kids, and you don’t keep them in diapers! Another example is clearing off vertical spaces for your cats, or get cat trees. I have neither the space nor the time for this kind of nonsense, nor do most of the cat owners I know. Especially the space!
The additional thing that annoyed me was the trend to over-complicate some of the issues: “it could be this … or that … or …” to the point where it’s not even helpful. More vital, building a major production out of processes like bringing a new cat into the environment. Operation Enduring Freedom this ain’t! Yes cats are intricate small animals (aren’t we all), but they take their cue from how much nonsense you’re willing to tolerate from them, and if you make a huge production out of things, they will certainly push that envelope.
For a name new to cats, this could be a excellent book, but if you’ve already had cats successfully for some time, save your money and trust your instincts.

More information that I ever dreamed of. If one follows her suggestions it would take an incredible amount
of time and energy to bring a new cat into the house where there are already one or more cats. Ultimately,
I chose my fund would be an Only Child!

I was so disappointed after reading this book because it didn’t solve one single issue I have with my three cats. They were all introduced properly but yet one of them has a trend to play fight with the additional two but they’re too laid back to play. This book may be helpful if you have multiple cats who are very domineering but for the most part, I’d just get this book at the library and save your money.
