I was new to DSLR photography and need to learn everything about my XSI from the beginning. I ongoing with the Michael Andrew DVD XSI crash course and establish it to be a excellent start. Then I bought the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSI/450D companion it was also helpful. Then I bought the Digital Rebel XSI/450D for Dummies and it is far superior to the additional book and the DVD. This book answers all questions and gives advice and reasons why you might do something one way or another.
Buy this book first and you will not feel a need to get anything else — it is an incredible book.

Even if you have experience with digital point & shoot, you need this book.
Veteran DSLR owners will find that they already know most of the theory in this book, but the pay off will come in the details of how each button and menu is plotted.
Canon’s small book that is packaged with the camera is a fantastic reference manual. But you will waste a lot of time trying to figure out all the buttons and menus, when certain features are available and when they are not, and all-purpose workflow if you do not have this Dummies book.
The Dummies book also reviews the software and gives you a feel for its pluses (free) and minuses.
Do yourself a favor. Regardless of your level of camera knowledge, include this book with your camera order. You will thank me.

I bought the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi/450D For Dummies along with the Magic Hurricane lantern Canon EOS Rebel XSi Guide and establish both books to be equally valuable. Very hard to say that I favor one over the additional, but rather find they complement each additional. If I were to recommend this item to anyone, I reflect I would recommend both.
