My order, DeLormes Northern California Atlas and Gazetteer arrived on time and in better condition than advertised. I’m very pleased with your customer service. Thank You, Mike Wilbanks

I had a an ancient version of the Delorme’s California Atlas that was my go to source for finding just about anything in Northern California. The trade-off, of course, was that it was point to No. Cal and didn’t go much not more than Fresno. I was due for an upgrade, and figured Delorme had just merged their Northern & Southern California books into one, which would have fit my needs perfectly.
The new book does have more pages, but the scale is a bit smaller than my original version. At first this didn’t bother me, but as I started using it to navigate smaller secondary state roads and jungle Service roads, the lack of detail makes it tougher for find your route. On the plus side, elevations are well marked and there is excellent local road detail of city and urban areas.
If you want a single book for all of California, this is probably it, but be warned that you lose some detail to your maps in the process.

I used this atlas for research in the desert parts of California. The maps themselves are excellent and accurate, but the binding is pretty terrible. My copy fell apart after 1 week in the desert. I’m going to try the earlier suggestion here about getting a spiral binding place on it – seems like a excellent thought to me.

This was fantastic on my trip from Las Vegas to Orange County, CA. It showed everything that I needed along the way and that is why I own these maps for additional states that I have or plot to visit.

Let’s face it: GPS doesn’t permanently work, and you won’t permanently have the coverage to access google maps on your phone. These atlases have accurate and comprehensive maps of nearly every back road and trail in the state. They also include reasonable approximations of public lands boundaries, though land ownership is not permanently as clear as it is on the USGS quads. If you’re going to place the highway, make sure you have a map that doesn’t need batteries- get one of these and you’ll be able to find your own way around anywhere in the Golden State.
