Product Description
Kiko Denzer and Hannah Meadow, maker and baker, invite you into the artisan tradition. First, erect a masonry oven out of mud. Then mix flour and water for real bread “better than anything you can buy.” Total cost? Hardly more than a baking stone – and it can cook everything else, from 2-minute pizza to holiday fowl, or a week’s meals.
Clear, abundant drawings and photos clarify every step of the process, from building “oven mud,” to fire, and to bread. Informative text puts it all into context with artisan traditions of many ages & cultures. Perfectly sculpted ovens (by the leader and readers) will inspire the artist in anyone. And the simple, 4 step recipe (based on professional and homestead experience) promises authentic hearth loaves for anyone, on any schedule.
From weekend gardeners to “simple living,” back-to-the-landers; Peace Corps volunteers to neighborhood community-builders; third-graders to planet-artists of all ages, this book feeds many hungers!

I knew the book was what I wanted as I had done my research. My only reason for entering an opinion here is that perhaps I am not the only one who is not COMPLETELY versed in the procedures of Amazon. I clicked on the “one click” buying method thinking that it eliminated the unnecessary rigamarole you go through. Once I establish the shipping cost was nearly as much as the product I wanted to abort the buy but was unable to due to that procedure. Shipping costs are hard to accurately learn as many companies are not doing business worldwide which makes there website either inaccurate or missing in shipping information. Persons that do ship internationally, have no qualms about over charging, it has become “standard practice” for companies to realize profit from shipping fees. I did not grow up in that world, it is a criteria which is incorrect! In addition, mail and shipping have become very huge business, UPS, FedEx, Emory, DHL, and every countries’ postal service has adopted the same rules they use offering very small in choice. Have only recently received the book and concluded a first reading. The thought is fantastic, and it appears to be relative simple to erect. Liked the thought and book layout so much, that I ordered a second book to gift to a friend who is also comtemplating building an oven.

I ordered this book for my spouse because for years he’s wanted to make a simple outdoor baking oven. This book looks like it is just what he’s been looking for, with lots of simple and basic thoughts for how to erect a mud oven. I can’t wait for him to erect it so we can start baking some bread and roasting up a chicken in it.
