Product Description
It’s 1936, in Flint, Michigan, and when 10-year-ancient Bud decides to hit the road to find his father, nothing can stop him.
From the Trade Paperback edition.Amazon.com Review
“It’s amusing how thoughts are, in a lot of ways they’re just like seeds. Both of them start real, real tiny and then… woop, zoop, sloop… before you can say Jack Robinson, they’ve gone and grown a lot larger than you ever thought they could.” So facts scrappy 10-year-ancient philosopher Bud–”not Buddy”–Caldwell, an orphan on the run from abusive foster homes and Hoovervilles in 1930s Michigan. And the thought that’s planted itself in his head is that Herman E. Calloway, standup-bass player for the Hazy Devastators of the Depression, is his father.
Guided only by a flier for one of Calloway’s shows–a tiny, blue poster that had mysteriously upset his mother before long before she died–Bud sets off to track down his supposed dad, a man he’s never laid eyes on. And, being 10, Bud-not-Buddy gets into all sorts of distress along the way, barely escaping a monster-infested woodshed, stealing a vampire’s car, and even getting tricked into “busting slob with a real live girl.” Christopher Paul Curtis, leader of The Watsons Go to Birmingham–1963, once again exhibits his skill for capturing the language and feel of an era and makes an authentic, touching, regularly hilarious voice in small Bud. (Ages 8 to 12) –Paul Hughes

My 5th grade teacher made us read it. I wanted to place the book down from the 1st page. It was very terrible and extrmeley dull. I dont know any book as dull as this. I mean its appealing for a boy to look for his real father but on his way there is no excitment. I’m the kind of person that reads the whole book but I couldn’t stand this one. I had to end. The tale had one of the most dull plots. It was just utterly horrible. I would not reccomend this book for any reader, unless your a dull person. But I don not know why the poeple rated this book all 5 stars. This book does not deserve 5 stars. It doesn’t deserve even one star. Dont ever read this. It’s horrible!

is how I clarify the book Bud not Buddy.I was forced to read this book in ela and it was horrible. It is about an orphan in the fantastic depression who lives in Michigan. He is looking for a man named Herman Calloway. He belivevs that this man is his father. The best part of this book is when Buddy gets adopted and is forced to spend the night in the shed full of wasps. This is the most exciting part of this book.In the end Bud does indeed find Herman Calloway and it turns out that this rich ancient man is not bud’s father but his grandfather. This book could have been written in three pages. It ,in my opinion, was not well written. It was long dull and pointless. One whole chapter of the book is about Bud going to a restautrant and having a name order him pea soup while he listens to the adults talk.WOW this was truly a riviting novel that i could not place down.I don’t reflect that this book describes the fantastic depression accurately . Bud is living in Michigan and in Michigan its very cold. So how does he not freeze to death at night with only a blanket for warmth? This was a horribly written dull waste of paper.I did not like this book and I donlt reflect anyone else will either.

Last year, in 6th grade, our reading teacher assigned my whole class to read Bud Not Buddy. Not one of my 25 additional classmates said they liked it! And even though we told our teacher that its probably best to stop reading the book and start a new one, she wouldent listen!!! I became so annoyed with the book, I eventually stoped reading it. Sure, I flunked every test about the book, but I have never regretted not finishing the book. I hope you will find this review helpfull.
