Product Description
See how the brain works while using it in the process of reading this book! Most of us have no thought what’s really going on inside our heads. Yet brain scientists have uncovered details every business leader, parent, and teacher should know – like that physical activity boosts your brain power. How do we learn? What exactly do sleep and stress do to our brains? Why is multi-tasking a myth? Why is it so simple to forget – and so vital to repeat new information? Is it right that men and women have different brains? In “Brain Rules”, Dr. John Medina, a molecular biologist, shares his lifelong interest in how the brain sciences might influence the way we teach our children and the way we work. In each chapter, he describes a brain rule – what scientists know for sure about how our brains work – and then offers transformative thoughts for our daily lives.Medina’s fascinating tales and sense of humour breathe life into brain science. You’ll learn why Michael Jordan was no excellent at baseball. You’ll peer over a surgeon’s shoulder as he proves that we have a Jennifer Aniston neuron. You’ll meet a boy who has an incredible memory for composition but can’t tie his own shoes.

Why does EVERY scientist who writes a book for the masses, on the brain, need to go into fantastic part about what the structures look like. This book would have been better if the leader all ears more on useful information. For example, Gender (which he refers to as sex). He gives no useful information about what we can DO once we know that gender brains are different.
So there really are three or four usable brain rules.

It’s facile and missing in substance. He throws out a lot of thoughts which sound like they came from research, but where are the references. I returned the book because of the horrifying introduction to a chapter on stress that detailed torture performed on dogs! I question the need to include the graphic description. There must be less heinous research studies on stress. I question his editor’s choice to allow that section. I returned the book and got my money back.

I reflect part of this book is practical advice, part of it is a small
superficial to me …

Appealing read with some information being new, some mainstream. I do not reflect I would buy again, but I would check it out from the library.

I haven’t read this yet so can’t comment from my own perspective, but my spouse likes the book and is getting some very excellent information from it.
