Product Description
This is a prayer for a blueberry girl . . .
A much-loved baby grows into a young woman: courageous, adventurous, and lucky. Exploring, traveling, bathed in sunshine, surrounded by the wonders of the world. What every new parent or parent-to-be dreams of for her child, what every girl dreams of for herself.
Let me go places that we’ve never been, trust and delight in her youth.
Nationally bestselling leader Neil Gaiman wrote Blueberry Girl for a friend who was about to become the mother of a small girl. Here, he and beloved illustrator Charles Vess turn this deeply personal wish for a new daughter into a book that celebrates the glory of growing up: a perfect gift for girls embarking on all the journeys of life, for their parents, and for everyone who likes them.
Give her all these and a small bit more, gifts for a blueberry girl.

I’m sorry I bought this. It would be incomprehensible to children and dull (insubstantial) for teenagers.

if the trailer is a excellent indication of the book, then the book would also lack inventiveness, surprises, and whimsy.

Slim picture book, wherein each page shows a different small girl happily frolicking with various animals and scenery spirits. The pictures, by Vess, are attractive enough, but do not tell a tale.
They illustrate a poem by Neil Gaiman, called “Prayer for a Blueberry Girl”. This is a prayer (or an incantation) for a child, but not a poem for a child. It was written by Gaiman for one of his adult friends. A child would find it incomprehensible.
So would most adults, including me. I marvel who these “ladies” are that Gaiman has us praying to. One of Vess’s pictures seems to depict a triple moon goddess. Whether this is what Gaiman had in mind, or is something Vess came up with on his own, I cannot tell.

I really delight in Neil Gaiman’s books they are unusual, but I bought this for a baby gift and establish it a small dark, so I just kept it, I liked it but didn’t reflect my friend would like it.

Both of my kids (girl 5, boy 3) really delight in both hearing this book at night and reading it themselves the next day. There is a certain rhythmic quality to the narrative I’ve establish sleep-inducing at bedtime. Perfectly illustrated throughout.
