Sure the tales may sound appealing, but how many men who placed their lives in harms way for the excellent of the NATION, and who still are, truely received any credit or DUE recongnition? This is another example of the attack on our governments military and displays lack of respect for persons men and women serving for you rights putting theirs on hold.

… I couldn’t even end it. It was just THAT BAD!! I had no emotion for the characters, hard to follow, poorly written & just unadorned dreadful. Were these people even there? Did they bother to speak to any of us submariners when writing this thing? YUCK!!

Might be appealing, but for me it was a waste of time and money. While this book does contain a small appealing information, most of the things it talks about could have easily been gleened from the news at the time they took place. The parts about the Scorpion and the Thresher incidents were the best part of the book for me.

This was very dissapointing. I expected a reality based novel, but it turned out to be a highly expanded tour book of sorts for the USN Submariners. A forced attempt at dropping as many names as possible so that they may take their due place on stage. Obvious bait for Hollywood.
Lacks depth or any serious literary skill. Feels like one long newspaper interview. Especially missing was mention of the moral aspects of having one’s finger on the trigger of a doom’s day machine. Hard to judge this never occupied any of the thoughts of the men and women manning these marvels of equipment and dispensers of indiscriminant destruction. So small mention was really made of the real hero that enabled these courageous men to navigate with such ease in the endless oceans of our planet: 20th Century science and engineering.
