Product Description
The Bhagavad Gita (“Song of the Lord”) is considered the most influential of all the Hindu scriptures and is one of the greatest spiritual classics of the world. Comprised of eighteen chapters taken from the fantastic Sanskrit epic Mahabharata, the Gita presents a conversation that takes place on a battlefield just as two groups of relatives are about to wage war against one another. Facing the forces of greed, rage, and hatred, the warrior-prince Arjuna loses heart and refuses to fight his own kin. His friend and charioteer, Lord Krishna, who represents the Divine within, tells him: “Your very scenery will drive you to fight.” In the ensuing dialogue, Krishna teaches Arjuna, and all of us, how we can face bravely the unavoidable challenges and conflicts of life—and win the greatest of all battles, against the tumultuous emotions within our own hearts.
Eknath Easwaran’s eloquent translation and Diana Morrison’s chapter introductions, which summarize major religious concepts, make this edition especially accessible for modern readers of any religion.Amazon.com Review
Prince Arjuna faced a dilemma that many face sooner or later–whether to take action that is necessary yet morally ambiguous. The difference is that Arjuna’s action was to wage war against his own family tree. With the armies arrayed, Arjuna loses his nerve. Krishna, his charioteer and incarnation of divine consciousness, starts to teach him the scenery of God and of himself, that Arjuna can attain liberation through union with God, and that there are several available paths. And so the most legendary and revered of all Hindu Scriptures goes on to teach the paths of knowledge, devotion, action, and meditation, apt the seed for all the Hindu systems of philosophy and religion that followed. For all of its profundity, Eknath Easwaran manages to translate the Gita in simple prose that neither panders nor obscures. Coupled with his thorough introduction, Easwaran’s version comes off on all the levels it should: as a guide to action, devotional Scripture, a philosophical text, and inspirational reading. So what does Arjuna finally do? He follows his dharma, of course, as we all must. –Brian Bruya

I am going to buy this book and read it. I am going to compare it to the New Tribute writings. I will compare the words of Khrisna with the words of Christ. Which words have the path of salvation in them and which words are a lie? This question is of all others the most vital.
I will write another review when I have concluded my review and readings and let you know what I find.
I invite all of you to do this investigation with me and let me know what you find.
God bless you all.

Having read the original tale and bieng a Hindu from birth, I would say this book is a pathetic translation of the original. Obviousely the leader has not developed an understanding for the tale and niether have any of the people who have reviewed this book

Eknath Easwaran has not understood the Gita. In fact, it is pretty evident that he had no interest in the Gita. He just wanted the use the Gita to preach his own bogus message. His explanations are so far off from the verses, that you’d marvel whether he considered himself to be smarter than God. Why else should he discard the teachings of God and place his own?

I establish preface of the book more appealing than the text. The text is really a translation of 18 Gita Chapters in English.
At times, the translation is small hard but overall is simple to follow. If you know/read/know a bit of Sanskrut, would be simple to read Sanskrut Chapter and then read the translaton to judge the quality yourself.
