When Jack Swytech’s ex- girlfriend questions him to defend her in a case brought by investors who advance payment on insurance policies when their beneficiaries have been diagnosed with a mortal condition, it looks like an simple win; Jessie Merrill wasn’t dying after all, but since Viatical Settlements accepted her doctor’s to some extent equivocal diagnosis, they don’t stand a chance of getting their money back. Still celebrating his victory, Jack learns that Jessie has lied to him; like the shady, possibly Mob-connected company that advanced Jessie the money, he’s been scammed. Then Jessie is murdered in a bizarre scenario that not only sets Jack up as the prime suspect but also threatens his marriage to the woman who is still traumatized by a vicious attack perpetrated by another of his erstwhile clients. Enlisting the aid of his best friend, an ex-con who will do anything to protect the man who saved him from death row, Jack attempts to clear his name by finding the real murderer, who turns out to have a secret worth killing for. The winding plot manages to hold the reader’s attention despite characters who seem drawn from central casting and a meandering pace that doesn’t exactly compel one to keep turning pages to unravel the mystery. –Jane Adams

I felt the tale in this book was not 100% perfect toward the end. For example, **** showed up a couple of times in the tale and no mention about him/her at another time, what happened to him/her or what is being done for the crimes being committed (ongoing investigation) and so into the world. Overall, the book is still excellent and worth a read, full of suspense toward the end. I was surprised, but it made sense when you reflect about the circumstances around it.

I am a huge fan of Grippando and consider this one to be one of his best writings. But don’t just take my word for it, read it and see for yourself. It’ll be worth every penny.

I have only recently started reading James Grippando’s novels and my result has been – “Why haven’t I heard more about this guy?” He is an outstanding writer who has the ability to pull you into the tale he has made and makes you want to keep reading to find out how everything is going to turn out. BEYOND SUSPICION is a welcome sequel to THE PARDON. Grippando does an brilliant job of presenting appealing and believeable characters whose lives twist and turn throughout a compelling tale. I establish BEYOND SUSPICION to be much more than just a predictable officially authorized thriller with the reader agreed an enjoyable reading experience. I look forwards to future works by this exceptional leader.

When I first selected this book up, I thought, here we go again, another officially authorized thriller by another lawyer. But I’m glad I read it. This is the first novel I’ve read by Mr. Grippando and I really loved most of the characters in the book. Jack Swyteck reminds me of the Matthew Hope character written by Ed McBain – my favorite. Theo is the one of the best “unsavory” characters I’ve read in awhile.
Only flaw I establish with the book was I did not like the ending – much like that of “Presumed Innocent”. No matter what her background or reasoning, nothing was open fervently enough for me to reflect Cindy Swyteck should get away with murder. Or that Jack should let her. I hope Grippando resolves this in another book.

Next time you consider doing a favor for an ex, revisit this tale. Jack Swyteck, a Miami-based criminal lawyer, helps her keep a $1.5 million payment for a viatical sale of her life insurance policy. She sold it when she mistakenly thought she was dying.
It turns out both Jack and the viatical investors are scam victims. When his ex is establish dead in his bathtub, Swyteck finds himself wanted for her murder.
His efforts to exhume the truth results in a riveting read.
