Product Description
One of the most extraordinary survival tales ever told — Aron Ralston’s searing account of his six days trapped in one of the most remote spots in America, and how one inspired act of bravery brought him home.
It ongoing out as a simple hike in the Utah canyonlands on a warm Saturday afternoon. For Aron Ralston, a twenty-seven-year-ancient mountaineer and outdoorsman, a walk into the remote Blue John Gap was a chance to get a break from a winter of solo climbing Colorado’s highest and toughest peaks. He’d earned this weekend trip, and though he met two charming women along the way, by early afternoon he finally establish himself in his element: alone, with just the beauty of the natural world all around him.
It was 2:41 P.M. Eight miles from his truck, in a deep and narrow slot gap, Aron was climbing down off a wedged stone when the rock suddenly, and terrifyingly, came loose. Before he could get out of the way, the falling stone pinned his right hand and wrist against the gap wall.
And so started six days of hell for Aron Ralston. With scant water and small food, no jacket for the painfully cold nights, and the terrible knowledge that he’d told no one where he was headed, he establish himself facing a lingering death — trapped by an 800-pound stone 100 feet down in the bottom of a gap. As he eliminated his escape options one by one through the days, Aron faced the full horror of his quandary: By the time any possible search and rescue effort would start, he’d most probably have died of dehydration, if a flash flood didn’t drown him before that.
What does one do in the face of nearly certain death? Using the video camera from his pack, Aron started recording his grateful excellent-byes to his family tree and friends all over the country, thinking back over a life filled with adventure, and documenting a last will and tribute with the hope that a name would find it. (For their part, his family tree and friends had instigated a major search for Aron, the incredible details of which are also documented here for the first time.) The knowledge of their like kept Aron Ralston alive, until a divine inspiration on Thursday morning solved the riddle of the stone. Aron then committed the most extreme act imaginable to save himself.
Between a Rock and a Hard Place — a brilliantly written, amusing, honest, inspiring, and downright astonishing report from the line where death meets life — will surely take its place in the annals of classic adventure tales.

This is the most dull book I have ever tried to read. It was a Summer Reading book and I couldnt even end it. It is soo technical, it is courageous how he lived through that suffering, but the book dragged and was horrible, i give it 0 stars.

I have been an avid ready for 25+ years(averaging one book per week), and this book is the first one I’ve been inspired to review. It was absolutely PAINFUL to read this young person’s self-indulgent search for adrenaline and reckless disregard for his acquaintances life and limbs. He absolutely DID “get what I questioned for”. And even though he wrote persons words, you don’t get the sense that they are sincere. AWFUL and SHAME ON YOU ARON!

I am an avid adventure reader, and was reasonably disappointed in this book. I establish Aron to be arrogant. And reasonably frankly, I find it hard to judge that anyone has had so many close calls with death. Hunted by a bear, outrunning avalanches, extant multiple storms, nearly struck by lightning, and that’s by page 50 and it never lets up! And who cares that he graduated at the top of his class? The Steven Venebles and Jon Krakauers out there bring geography, geology, culture, history, wilderness, human relationships and intense realness to their adventures. Aron could have done this with the experiences he has had, but failed.

This man is a right hero, to cut off his own arm in order to live! I was inspired and will never forget Aron’s miraculous and touching tale!

This book is a “recommended reading” by a local university. I thought it might really have some merit or be a tad appealing. This must be Aron’s 15 minutes of fame book because its just couldn’t hold my attention. I was amazed when his tale first hit the airwaves and thought his tale would be riveting. But his adventure sure is a dull read. Whoever helped him with this book must have thought his courage alone would sell the book. I could hardly end reading this. I would tell anyone thinking of buying this book to save their money. He sounded self absorbed and I just didn’t really care about the “filler info” between the manufacturing accident and the end of the tale where he finally freed himself and was rescued.
