An Interview with Joel Osteen
Q: Do you have a hero?A: Of course, my greatest hero is Jesus Christ. He should be everyone’s greatest hero. But, among men, I have two real heroes. My father, John Osteen, was not only the best father anyone could ever have, but was my best friend as well. He was a man of fantastic integrity, and he taught me how vital it was to incorporate Jesus Christ into every part of my life. Another of my heroes is Billy Graham who throughout the years has remained right to that which God called him to do and has done so with the utmost dedication, humility, and integrity.
Q: In today’s conflicted world, how do you encourage people to maintain their faith?
A: As believers we should be assured that Jesus said He would never place us nor forsake us. We should adopt a mindset that God wants to be involved in our everyday lives, through excellent times and hard times. We should communicate with God throughout our day (to pray lacking stopping), not just when we are in crisis. He cares about our lives even in the tiny things. There is no part of our lives that are insignificant to Him.
Q: What did effective behind the scenes at Lakewood during your father’s ministry inform how you preach today?
A: Really it all ongoing for me when I was born. Our family tree never missed church; Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night, week in and week out. But, for 17 years I did produce and edit my father’s sermons for television. I regularly joke that I attended one year of college and 17 years of seminary. For persons 17 years, I would have to study my father’s weekly sermons and then cut them down to a 28-minute TV program while maintaining the message. I guess I’ve listened to at least 1,500 of my father’s messages.
Q: Your ministry reaches millions each week through television and the Internet. How has equipment changed how people worship today?
A: Through telecommunications equipment, especially the web, more Christian programming is available than ever before. Not only do people have more choices in Christian programming, but they can get as much as they want whenever they want it. I reflect that our use of equipment results in people spending more of their time thinking about the things of God. But, I don’t see equipment replacing worship in the traditional sense–that is worshipping with additional believers in a church. Everyone should belong to a excellent Bible-based church.
Q: In our busy lives, what is your advice for how we can slow things down and find peaceful moments?
A: Personally, I take time each morning to spend with God. I have a silent place in my home or I find a silent place if I am traveling where I pray and seek guidance from God. I reflect that is the best way for anyone to start their day; it really sets the tone for each day.
Q: As a father, what advice would you share with parents struggling with our quick-paced culture?
A: Victoria and I chose a long time ago that our family tree takes priority over most everything else. I tell people all the time that their families should be their first mission meadow. Today, it takes a fantastic deal of our time and energy to make a living. We need to make sure our families don’t get the fleeting end of the stick and we need to make time for them. And, I am talking about “quality time”; no cell phones, no business calls, no outside distractions, just family tree.

I was agreed this book by a friend-I like some of the thoughts but I am not a christian-if you still want to become a better you, but don’t want to be prosytized, try FREE YOUR MIND by Anthony Stultz or BIG MIND by Dennis Merzel.

This type of self-help book turns me off. I don’t wish to be “preached” to or sermonized at and I don’t like televangelists which is exactly what I thought of the minute he ongoing language. I don’t like books that lean heavily towards pushing the religion of their view points or expect me to judge in their God. I have my own beliefs and ways I do that.
The leader is a pastor at Lakewood Church in Houston Texas. His sermonizing immediately had me turning a deaf ear to what he was adage. I judge you can be A Better You but not in the way he preached to do it.
If you need to find a belief system, this book will give you one way to do that. If you have your own, then you will find this book as irritating as I did.

both known and unknown, wherever you may be, I submit these thoughts for your consideration. There are a number of reasons Joel Osteen isn’t telling us as to why he wants to prevent people from thinking and visualizing beyond an increasingly psychologically confined being. I will expose persons reasons one-by-one, on the principle that if we are powerless to rouse people’s ire at Joel, it is because we have allowed Joel to remove society’s moral barriers and allow perversion to prosper. So what if he despises me for pointing out that he seems keen to follow the hastily dyed banner of alarmism? Let him despise me. I consider such hatred a mark of honor, a mark of honor.
Joel does not want to goad deceitful protestors into hurling epithets at his enemies because he is rash, catty, unscrupulous, and unkempt (though, granted, Joel is all of the aforementioned) but rather because Joel’s co-conspirators resist seeing that mudslinging is Joel’s forte. They resist seeing such things because to see them, to examine them, to reflect about them and draw conclusions from them is to give Joel a rhadamanthine warning not to place a sordid spin on vital issues. He does, occasionally, make a valid point. But when he says that he is a model citizen, that’s where the facts end and the ludicrousness starts.
If Joel gets his way, none of us will be able to chat about the programmatic foundations of his shameless, biggety ballyhoos in detail. Therefore, we must not let Joel incite an atmosphere of violence and endangerment toward the excellent men, women, and children of this state. He likes adage that testy caitiffs are more deserving of honor than our nation’s war heroes. Okay, that’s a parody — but not a very yucky one. In point of fact, I receive a fantastic deal of correspondence from people all over the world. And one of the things that impresses me about it is the massive number of people who realize that the impact of Joel’s psychotic, ignominious imprecations is exactly that predicted by the Book of Revelation. Evil will preside over the land. Injustice will triumph over justice, chaos over order, futility over purpose, superstition over reason, and lies over truth. Only when humanity experiences this Hell on Planet will it fully appreciate that Joel says that profits come before people. That’s his unvarying tale, and it’s a lie: an extremely pigheaded and selfish lie. Sorry to say, it’s a lie that is accepted unquestioningly, uncritically, by Joel’s zealots. I’ll end this letter by instructing you not to blindly accept my words or persons of others as truth. Investigate, discriminate, and question everything not proven. Only by doing so can you determine for yourself that Joel Osteen’s a leech, a voracious parasite.
