Like many others I selected this book up because it was free and a classic. While I dont’ regret reading it, I establish it to some extent preachy. Beauty is essentially flawless, not only is she modest, hardworking, gorgeous and kind, but she is contrasted by her stepsisters who aren’t as gorgeous and are hateful. Beauty questions herself of the beast “Is it his fault that he is so hideous, and has so small sense?” deciding that the best qualities in a spouse are “virtue, sweetness of temper, and [my favorite] complaisance.” Some epic romance that makes. There was essentially no character development, and no chemistry what so ever between Beauty and the Beast. But, the tale was fleeting, and it was appealing to read the original version, since I had only ever read additional spinoffs, and seen the Disney version. Overall, I would say, sure go yet to be and read it but try to keep your expectations low.

If you like the ancient tales, this is the tale for you in the original text. If you want a tale in current language, don’t buy it. I like ancient english, so I loved the tale and have read it to my 4 year ancient who loved it too. There are no pictures, but that is nearly better so you can use your imagination. Children like pictures though, and once my daughter got over the no pictures, she really liked the tale.

I didn’t realize this was a fleeting tale when I got it but what a fantastic one it is. Not like the Disney movie, no action, but the tale is wonderful. Free certainly doesn’t hurt either!

This book brought a smile to my face. It is such a excellent, sweet tale. I learned how well the screenwrtiers followed the original tale, yet along with the imagineers at Disne, introduced new characters that fit right in It made me want see the animated film again. It is fleeting and would make a fantastic bedtime tale for your kids or for yourself. Certainly worth the read.
