Whether you grew up reading Batman comics, watched the campy television show, or keenly await each new movie, this is the book for you. A retelling of the events that led to Bruce Wayne’s apt Batman, this book combines Frank Miller’s forceful film-noir writing with David Mazucchelli’s levelheaded artwork.

A friend suggested this book to me. I have permanently been a fantastic fan of DC comics, especially Batman. This account of the Dark Knight’s earliest adventures completely disappointed me. Even the binding of the book was terrible. The pages ripped out of the book at such a rapid rate that I could barely read it in order. But even that didn’t matter. The tale was so terrible that it was the same even if I read it backwards. The art was so terrible, I didn’t even know whether it was comic book art or a collection of picassos(no offense to expressionist art). I expected more from this creative team. but now I will never read any Batman tale again. Frankly, I would rather watch an ad

One might thing from the reviews here that Miller’s vision is universally acclaimed by comics readers. It is not. From the beginning there were persons who establish his compulsive need to degrade everything that is noble and heroic in superhero comics as cheap shock tactics. Persons critics have increased in number in the 10 years since Dark Knight Returns was published, but they stopped trying to voice their views because the fanatics permanently shout them down.
Until recently, when Miller’s criticism of 9-11 tributes “building heroes of all persons crying firemen” have place his subversive need to tear down heroes into a different light.
It’s honestly well understood that Miller and Year One is not suggested reading for children. It is also not recommended for adults with less a nihilistic, and morally bankrupt view of their fellow men.

Batman before he was Batman, fantastic stuff. I like the part when Cat woman comes in and seeing Commissioner Gorden 10 years younger doesn’t hurt much either. All in all a levelheaded work, nearly as excellent as Bruce Timm and all his work for the animation (the only guy who can draw batman the way he looks). But then hey, we all had a stab at drawing batman. Haha! Lol!

This is a well written batman tale by frank miller, it mostly focuses on jim gordan’s early career, and batman’s first few appearances. Catwoman appears briefly but no additional legendary batman characters are featured. Very excellent art, but sort of a dull tale.
