I establish the book to be satisfactory if that. Illustrations are excellent but in some cases not very accurate, and at times confusing. The section of the preseravation of meats could have been left out. Its outdated. This book would fantastic for Grizzly Adams or the Waltons.

I was very disappointed with this book. The information is sparse at best. I was hoping for step by step photographs. Nope. Not a single photograph anywhere in this book. I needed to know how to slaughter ducks. The only information on ducks is how to pluck them. Ducks are a much larger, heavier bird than chickens. Do you slaughter them the same way? I don’t know. It’s not addressed in the book. Frankly, you can get more information by “googling” than you can with this book.

I bought this to brush up on my skills. It does offer a step by step on how to process several animals as well as some personal anecdotes for flavor. I establish that the title of the book is accurate. its Basic Butchering. nothing more.

If you ever wanted to know about butchering, this is the book to get. It gives all information not only on butchering, but how to wrap the meat, how long to keep it, the best cuts of meat. This is such a fantastic book.
