Product Description
Legend has it that hidden in the remote reaches of the Himalayan mountains lies a secret that would have saved Ponce de Leon from years of fruitless searching. There, generations of Tibetan monks have passed down a series of exercises with mystical, age-reversing properties. Known as the Tibetan Rites of Renovation or the Five Rites, these once-secret exercises are now available to Westerners in Very ancient Secret of the Fountain Of Youth. Peter Kelder’s book starts with an account of his own introduction to the rites by way of Colonel Bradford, a mysterious retired British army officer who learned of the rites while journeying high up in the Himalayas. Fountain of Youth then offers practical instructions for each of the five rites, which resemble yoga postures. Taking just minutes a day to perform, the benefits for practitioners have included increased energy, weight loss, better memory, new hair growth, pain relief, better digestion, and just feeling younger.

Blah, blah, blah. It’s just another exercise book. The only difference is it ties in to spiritual stuff. The main audience for this book are people who like all that chakra/astral vibration jazz. Not for people who want practical advice because the leader can’t seem to stay “earthbound” but has to talk about yoga culture thoughts whenever possible.

The exercises in this book are similar to yoga except they are too strenuous for anyone and can hurt spine or knees if an individual has joint problems. Anyone doing yoga would get the same effects. On the theme of diet, Fit For Life has the same principles.

The book offer some fantastic yogo movements that I’m sure can be beneficial, but has anyone applying the program as Mr Kelder outlined ever turned back the clock?

I am still considering this book (that’s why only 3 stars). I am sure the exercises are beneficial, but, judging from additional reviewer’s comments on experiencing stress, (…), back aches, fatigue, etc.. – these are predictable symptoms of dedydration. As with any exercise program or just living in all-purpose, the body needs lots of water – a lot more than we normally reflect as being OK (additional liquids such as juice, soda or tea does not benefit the body like water).
I fervently recommend “You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty – Water: for Health, for Healing, for Life” written by F. Batmanghelidj, M.D. He clarifies why water is so vital, the benefits and how to do it. Water helps all bodily functions to work more efficiently down to the cellular level. Please note that among water’s many benefits is the trend to slow down and prevent premature aging.
He also recommends vitamin supplements as well to round out your water regimen.
So stay hydrated and delight in your exercise!

The book leads you on a bit that the secrect of youth is going to be revealed and really , except for the spinning rite, the others are forms of yoga exercises, stretches or isometrics which you can find in any excellent yoga exercise book. There is a section on giving up sex and rechanneling that energy, if you want to. The lost chapter is just about building affirmations. The spinning is the only thing honestly different (Tibetan Whirling Dervishes), although I have done it in a yoga class. Since the rites/exercises are simple, I plot to do them, just in case the combination just happens to be the fountain of youth. The book’s value is that it is tiny, though wordy at times, and it puts together a program you can do easily and quickly and will be of some value to your body and mine and which could become a nice habit/ritual to stay with “forever.” It could also make an appealing gift.
