Yeah… it is a book like a narrative journal. Yeah… it discusses “culture.” Yeah… it makes me sick.
It was honest…. but after awhile, it got ancient. Somewhere around page 30. If you have something else to read as a replacement for, don’t read this one. Just another example of how pop culture tries to infect what quality is.

I am a woman and was extremely offended at the portrayel of Black men in this book and in the movie. The work offers NO BALANCE whatsoever which feels like a slap in the face. One Black male in this book could have been something additional than weak or cruel. It is no marvel Spielberg was keen to take on the project and white people are going to the theater in droves. The castration of the Black male has permanently been their main attraction, rumor has it that Oprah’s as well.

this is the worst book i’ve ever read, along with the house on mango street. i had to read this the summer before ninth grade. yes, ninth! i was THIRTEEN and i had to submerge myself in this perverted sick unhealthy (most likely drug-induced) for lack of a better word, BOOK. i was horrified, disgusted, revolted, terrified, and it was NOT a pleasant read. i couldn’t even end it. i stopped after about 100 pages, and akwardly had to tell my mom that i didn’t want to end it. she read it and agrees with me. why this is considered a “CLASSIC” is beyond me. it sounds like alice walker is on crack and wrote down the first twisted, sick, perverted scence she could reflect of. i would NEVER recommend this book, especially for schools.

I had to read this book for 11th grade English class. I didn’t choose to read this book, and I’m glad that I didn’t. The plot of the book itself was okay, but it was kindof hard to follow at times and it got very dull. Also, if you want to talk about a novel that should be banned from schools, this one should be on that list. Some of the novel has to do with Celie’s sexual relations with her “father,” Mr. _____, Shug, and herself. I establish that to be revolting! It doesn’t add anything to the book, except for disgusting thoughts. That’s what really turned me against the book. It could have been written lacking this junk in it. I judge that it would’ve been a better book if it had been. As for the plot, it was okay. The tale itself is pretty self-explanatory: a young black woman growing up in the South. She is being heald down by the male facts in ger life. Yadda, yadda, yadda! This tale has been used in so many books and movies; it’s pathetic!
