Separated by time
From his grandmother, Alex Cross has heard the tale of his fantastic uncle Abraham and his struggles for survival in the era of the Ku Klux Klan. Now, Alex passes the family tree tale along to his own children in a novel he’s written–a novel called Examination.
Connected by blood
As a lawyer in turn-of-the-century Washington D.C., Ben Corbett represents the toughest cases. Fighting against oppression and racism, he risks his family tree and his life in the process. When President Roosevelt questions Ben to return to his home town to investigate rumors of the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan there, he cannot refuse.
United by bravery
When he arrives in Eudora, Mississippi, Ben meets the wise Abraham Cross and his gorgeous granddaughter, Temperamental. Ben enlists their help, and the two Crosses introduce him to the hidden side of the idyllic Southern town. Lynchings have become commonplace and residents of the town’s black quarter live in constant dread. Ben aims to break the reign of terror–but the truth of who is really behind it could break his heart. Written in the fearless voice of Detective Alex Cross, Alex Cross’s Examination is a gripping tale of murder, like, and, above all, bravery.

I will NOT pay more than 9.99. That is the agreement between Amazon Kindle and the Kindle owners!

This is the second Patterson book unrestricted well above the expected $9.99 Kindle fee. I invested in my Kindle with the expectation (clearly set by Amazon) that new releases would be $9.99. I like Patterson books, but I won’t buy this one, or any additional leader priced above $9.99.

Suspense, conspiracy, and life-like characters make this the book of the century. Authors James Patterson, Richard DiLallo, and Dylan Baker have out done themselves. I was mesmerized by this tale of racism. The detailed descriptions of beatings, mobs, and drapery were horrific. The courtroom scenes were fascinating. I like it.

Really I haven’t read this book and do not intend to. If I could have agreed it a NO-STAR rating I would have. While I have permanently loved James Patterson’s books, especailly the Alex Cross ones, I won’t be reading this one. As a born and bred Mississippian, I am sick to death of all that want people to judge that it was only in the state of Mississippi that racial things happened. I’m not proud of things that went on here, even though most of it happened before I was born and when I was too young to really know what was going on, but I also know that things just as terrible happened elsewhere but you never hear of persons. It seems only Mississippi is chosen for that.
As a replacement for of promoting equality and racial togetherness, there are persons that seem to just want to keep things stirred up and do more harm than excellent. I, for one, treat people the way they treat me and don’t care what color they are. That was the way I was brought up.

I am appalled that Patterson and his editor(s) are contributing to the “dumbing down” of America!
“Alex Cross’s Examination”?
Patterson, you should be ashamed of yourself! Your editor(s) and publisher should recall every copy and right them!
This is yet another reason NOT to buy the book.
