Very disappointed in the condition of the book. It stated “very excellent” but should have stated “very worn.” The book itself was brilliant reading and I painstakingly loved it and am now reading book 2.

For the very first time I ordered a book online on January 4. The book was coming from Analog books After I concluded the transaction I was informed that I would receive the book between the 11th and 27th of January. Since this book was for a discussion to be held on the 6th of February, I was hoping it would arrive early. IT DID NOT. In fact, I received the book of the 1st of February. Since it is a many chaptered book, needless to say I did not have enough time to read it before the discussion. I am very dissatisfied with the service I received and will probably not order this way again.

I selected this book up a long time ago, skimmed over it to know the gist of it and place it back down. I establish that I could not read it completely because, as another viewer said, it is not for the weak-hearted. If I had to find anything to compare it to today, I would compare it to the HBO series ROME. It is more Roman than Christian, meaning it is much more graphic than the usual Christian fare. It was the first book by Francine Rivers that I heard of, and I was nearly frightened off because this
book was so grim and realistic. I admire Rivers for being able to arouse such horror, rage and hatred in me for the Romans right from page 1. Because of these feelings, I can only give it 2 stars. It is not my kind of book because of the graphics and because of Hadassah. She is a wonderful Christian, probably the way Christians should be, but she is
reasonably unrealistic. I find it very hard to judge that she wouldn’t have some temporary resentment for the Romans for killing her family tree, especially
for the Roman soldier who killed her brother and threw her sister’s
lifeless body onto a pile of others. For her to say “I will never curse you” to that man later was VERY unreal. Hadassah witnessed it, for heaven’s sake! I don’t judge many people today could identify with her; I certainly didn’t. If you don’t mind these two points, buy this
book. It will be a real history lesson. As for me, I will stick with the Sons of Encouragement and Lineage of Grace series.
Personal Note: I would’ve liked it if her sister had survived. I’ve noticed that characters named Leah have a very hard time at the hands of
authors. They are either hideous, crazy, mean or they end up dead.

Well written, BUT, I will not buy anymore of her works as she spends far too much of the book preaching for page after page. It’s very simple to skip thru these sections but why should I pay for half a book of religious text. Happily she does balance this out by not using these same seemingly inserted sections of religious philosophy for gratuitous sex.

Gorgeous. This has to be the best Christian book that I have ever read. The characters are so real as are -most- of the situations. Francine Rivers has a very gifted style of writing-I couldn’t place this book down once I ongoing it and rushed to the bookstore to get the sequel after I finished.
