Product Description
On May 14, 1948, under the stewardship of President Harry S. Truman, the United States became the first nation to admit the State of Israel — just moments after sovereignty had been confirmed in Jerusalem. But it was hardly a foregone conclusion that America would welcome the creation of this new country. While acknowledging this as one of his proudest moments, Truman also admitted that no issue was “more controversial or more complex than the problem of Israel.”
Impeccably researched and brilliantly told, based on never-before-used archival material, A Safe Haven is a suspenseful, moment-by-moment re-creation of this crossroads in U.S.-Israeli relations and Middle Eastern politics.

The primary saving grace of this book is that it does help prove my previously arrived at conclusion that Truman, along with Wilson and Johnson, was one of the three presidents (all Democrats, fascinatingly)reliable for the greatest mistakes made by this country in the 20th century–Wilson for getting us embroiled in Europe’s bloody insanity of WW!, Johnson for getting us mired in Vietnam, and Truman for ignoring what small common sense he possessed and caving in to the pressures of his Zionist cronies, “advisers,” and additional Zionist propaganda/pressure groups and their lies and giving away to people A land belonging to people C because of wrongs done to people A by peoples G through R, thus ensuring that we would nosebleed treasure, real blood and political capital in the middle-East in defense of the indefensible–20th century colonialism–for what now seems like an eternity. And this book does expose the evils inherent in allowing Zionist fellow-travelers anywhere near the seats of power in ANY nation that values its own independence!
One can admit the sympathies of the authors of this book just by looking at the listings in the pointer. No listing for Lord Moyne, Lord Mountbatten, or the King David Hotel, for example. And in the text of the book the authors clarify the wanton massacre perpetrated by the Zionist Jews at Deir Yassin as “a tragedy.”

The theme matter was the reason I bought the book. Very informative information, but writing was very featureless. The book is wrtitten in a text book style, so really hard to ” get into”.
Overall, I was disappointed the way the writer described the events, although if you are looking for a history book, I suppose that this will suffice.

This is a very well documented history of a courageous action by one of our best, and most underrated presidents. Although it is a past work, it reads like a novel. On the substance, it is remarkable to look back on how Israel was made and the forces that were then aligned against it and see that not much has changed in 60 years. The Arabs are as unyielding as ever, the British continue to be anti-semetic and pro-Arab and the US State Department and the Secretary of State are as duplicitous as ever. Nevertheless, the Jews continue to erect a wonderful country that has set a moral standard for the world.

this could potentially be a dull book because of the mass of characters and facts involved. as a replacement for it is exciting and well researched. my only objection is the picture of Truman and his boyhood friend, broadly smiling and walking down the street while Truman is carrying a picture of a nuclear bomb explosion, obviously in Japan.
