I loved that the couple finished up together at the end even though you kind of wandered what would take place.

It seems that, in every bookstore, there’s a colossal wall of Nicholas Sparks books. A Bend in the Road appeared to be an appealing read, so I selected it up, only to be extremely disenchanted. The narrative was simply horrible! Sparks spoon-feeds the reader – explaining the obvious, and disclosing “clues” MUCH too explicitly. Furthermore, he REPEATS these superfluous ramblings ad nauseam. He DESCRIBES feelings and emotions, rather than allowing his reader to sense and experience them. This takes the very purpose and pleasure out of reading a book! I find that Sparks’s writing style is trite, predictable, rudimentary… and even a bit patronizing to anyone with more than two brain cells. Sorry, Nicky!

If I could give this book negative stars, I would; I am absolutely flabergasted at these reviews. I had to read this book for our Book Club and establish it to be the worst book I ever read and a total waste of my time! I am an avid reader and am mad when I read a book that is such garbage as this one was. Not only was it really predictable, but Sparks’ style is elementary. I read one additional book by him for the same Book Club, and establish it to be total dribble- what is the American public coming to?
Better spending your time reading The Corrections- now that’s a excellent use of your time.

I really despise to do this, but it irks me that an over-rated leader could get to be a best seller. This book is not as excellent as the worst Harlequin I have ever read! There is not one thing in this book that kept me turning the pages.

This book did not hold my attention at all. I felt that it was slow and I didn’t care about any of the characters. They were all so pathetic that you really couldn’t choose who to feel sorry for. The book was also Highly predictable. You knew everything that was going to take place from the first 3 chapters into the book. I felt that this book was a perfect waste of time. Then again Nicholas’ only excellent book was “The Pad” and even that was slow at times and uneventful.
