The Women’s Murder Club pits four San Francisco women professionals against a serial killer who’s stalking and murdering newlyweds in bestselling leader James Patterson’s newest thriller. Lindsay Boxer is a homicide inspector who’s just gotten some very terrible news. She deals with it by immersing herself in her newest case and soliciting the personal as well as professional support of her closest friend, who happens to be the city’s medical examiner. The two women, along with an ambitious and sympathetic reporter and an assistant DA, form an unlikely alliance, pooling their information and bypassing the chain of mandate in an engaging, suspenseful tale whose gruesome setup is vintage Patterson.
“What is the worst thing anyone has ever done?” the killer muses to himself early in the narrative. “Am I capable of doing it? Do I have what it takes?” Answering his own question, he embarks on a murderous bender that takes him from the nuptial suite in a Nob Hill hotel to a honeymoon destination in the Napa Valley and thence to a wedding reception at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. Dispatching his victims on the most pleased day of their lives, he purposefully leaves enough clues for his distaff trackers to learn his identity and place him behind bars. But just when the women reflect they’ve got the case all wrapped up, the killer turns the tables on them in a bloody denouement that even the most discerning reader won’t see coming. Patterson, leader of the well loved Alex Cross mysteries, promises future adventures for the Women’s Murder Club, which may give him an opportunity to renovate his heroines’ characters more completely and win new fans among persons who prefer their detectives in high heels and lipstick. –Jane Adams

We can only see what we are is a theory of quantum physics.
Therefore when James Patterson makes his serial killer a vegetarian
and his detective a ribs eater, he is projecting his own guilt
at being the serial killer of animals, at being the payer of
the hitmen at the slaughterhouse.
In truth, violence is correlated so fervently to the murder
at the slaughterhouse and the consumption of cadavers that
in the 19th Century, butchers were not allowed to sit on British
juries.

Listen, this book was fantastic, I had no quibbles with plot fundamentals, or characterization…there were tear-jerking moments here and there, not to mention an intense scream-per-page kind of a residue, but I’ve got several details I need to point out. There’s a plumbing scene where the protagonist goes to fix some pipes because the drip convinces her that the killer lives in the pipes. That’s fine. But the way she handles this is really bizarre. I should know, since I’m a Maintenance Man. I work with plumbers and landscapers, so I know a couple things. When you’re screwing on a regimen-4 pipeline, you NEVER, EVER, EVER use your bare hands. You permanently wear protective gloves. CLEARLY the protagonist was ignorant, (or Patterson, you choose) and she could have gotten burned.

Some of the words were too hard to read. I reflect my copy may have been defective. Also, there weren’t enough fund cats. Judge me, if I am ever the first to die, I will come back and haunt Mr. Patterson with like for writing such a tender, scintillating joy of a novel. I hope he’s the very last to die. Very last.

Four professional women on their way up unite their training and talents to solve a case- -twice. The tale starts with shocking murders and plodding police work and proceeds to a couple of fantastic twists.
I read the MS-Reader (LIT) edition on my Pocket PC with 1,430 (tiny) pages; the hardcover edition is 424 pages.
I’ve read a number of Patterson’s books and this is one of his best. The plot is set in San Francisco. Perhaps I liked the tale so much because I grew up in The City.

The novel ongoing off suspenseful straight away. James Patterson did not waste any time to get to heart of the suspense. It was not just about 4 women tied to murder, but about how the murders were carried out by the killer and how he was learned. If you don’t like slow beginnings with a suspenseful murder plot … read “1st to Die”
Can’t wait to read 2nd Chance!!
