As a golfer, I realize that the mental aspect of “the game” (and perhaps life in all-purpose) is as vital, if not more vital, than technical skills. So, I bought two books to explore the thought of mental toughness: this one in a Kindle version, and With Winning Mind: The Mental Management System in hardback (as they do not offer this in Kindle). With Winning Mind is fleeting and to the point, and its advice is spot on. In contrast, you have to slug through hours of beside the point ramblings to get to the essence of 10-Minute Toughness. How ironic. Maybe a lot has been lost in the Kindle translation. Anyway, the only excellent things about this book are: (1) It’s on Kindle, and (2) I can try to recategorize all these ramblings into the coherent structure Lanny Bassham has set up. Item (2) is about as much fun a drinking castor oil. Maybe indead of bashing the 10-Minute toughness book, I should ruin my Kindle as a replacement for, as the message may have been horribly malled by this manner of language method.

Their are reasonably a few books out there that point to the fact that you can improve your mental game and they are worthwhile reading. This book lays out a process to follow to apply the principles in a very practical way. In this way, it is head and shoulders above the others that I have read. Follow the advice here and your game will improve.

This is such a practical way to approach performance excellence, no matter what meadow you apply it to. Sports, business, lifestyle – anything you want to truly change in your life, any goal you really want to pursue, the 10-MT program is the way to go.
In the few weeks since using it, I’ve achieved two goals that I wasn’t sure I had the capability to achieve: a 1 hour 46 minute half lengthy, and a sub 23 minute 5km. It might not be that impressive to a real athlete, but they represent huge improvements in my recreational running. And I’m setting larger goals than I ever thought I would, in my 40s.
One of the largest ways that 10-MT helped me achieve these goals was to take my mind OFF the goals themselves (after defining them) and focusing as a replacement for on the way I need to perform to achieve them. So as a replacement for of starting a race thinking “I will cross the line in under 1 hour 50 minutes” I’m thinking “shoulders are soft, centre is strong, legs and light and quick”. 10-MT has been building my training and races much more enjoyable and much more gratifying.
The best book I’ve read so far (of about half a dozen) on achieving personal excellence.
